Restoran Todak (Orang Asli), Masai, Johor

Last Saturday, we went to Restoran Todak at Teluk Jawa, Masai to have some fresh seafood dinner beside the sea. The sweet curry prawn was so delicious. Steam bun (馒头) tasted really good with the sweet curry sauce. We ordered crabs with both spicy and pepper flavor. Both flavor were equally good. The dinner costed about RM 320 with roughly RM 40+ per person.

Dream Comes True (美梦成真)

As usual when our fast food outlet closed shop at 10pm sharp, we would start to perform the daily cleaning. The cashier didn't have to do any cleaning as they would be busy calculating the money collected in their respective cash register machines. As back up staff who took order from the cashier and prepared most of the meal, we had the most utensils, plates and trays to clean up.

Normally the leftover food on the trays was kept at minimal quantity. An hour before 10pm, the cook would only prepare the fried chicken based on direct order. I would only serve two to three packets of fries and wedges on the trays. Due to company policy, any leftover food must be disposed of and staff was not allowed to consume it. Of course I would grab some of the nudgets/fries to fill in my hungry stomach before packing all the leftover into a rubbish bag for disposal.

The hardest part of cleaning was the fried chicken trays. The crispy flour stuck stubbornly on the trays that it could only be removed with hard-brushing over hot water. To make cleaning easier, I soaked all the trays into the hot water for several minutes before doing the brushing to get rid all the sticky crispy flour. The final part of cleaning was the floor when everyone would get drenched to the skin. The whole cleaning work took about an hour before we called it a day.

Usually I reached home around 11.30pm when everyone was already sleeping. After shower, I would watch some music videos especially Valen Hsu's Dream Comes True (美梦成真) for an hour or more before I could sleep. Although this routine happened 12 years, I would always miss the memory of sweet and sour whenever I listen to Valen Hsu's Dream Comes True (美梦成真).

Serangoon NEX Part 2

It is Sunday, my rest day yet as usual I woke up around 7.30am to do my laundry, took a morning walk along Kallang river, had a vegetarian breakfast at a nearby hawker center and bought my daily supply from Fair Price. Once at home, I checked my yahoo mail, twitter and watched some youtubes. I took a 3 hours power nap at noon to rejuvenate my mind and replenish my energy. I could have continued to sleep until night if not for my overgrown hair which require immediate trimming.

In the afternoon, I went to NEX to get my Amani hair cut at QB House. At Graffiti Cafe (level B2-62), I ordered a set A meal (S$5.30) consisting of Pontian wanton mee and green bean dessert for dinner. The Pontian wanton mee (笨珍云吞面) was as delicious as Sarawak Kolo Mee. And the green bean dessert was good for slowing down aging...as per what I learn from Channel 8 Chinese drama but I don't really buy it. I spent an hour reading a Dilbert comic at Serangoon National Library (Level 4-82/83 Skygarden). Before heading home, I bought a pearl milk tea (S$1.90) from Sweet Talk (level B2-67).

I didn't really enjoy my weekend mainly due to my impaired sense of hearing. I suffered acute pain to my left ear since several days ago which results in partial hearing loss probably due to blockage of pus or blood remnants in my left ear's passage. Hopefully the blockage will clear out by itself once it gets dried.

Morning Trauma Part 2

I was traumatized again due to another nightmare this morning. I found myself walking along the corridor on the ground floor of a three-storey building. The building was still under construction with no walls but beams and columns. I was frozen to shock when I felt the first wave of earth thrust right under my feet. I could even see the wave propagating from my position to the front causing others ahead stumbled as the wave went past them. Few seconds later, a second wave hit us again.

A man who just got out of the building signaled me to leave this building as he briskly walked away from the building. I  followed him immediately. As we stood at the open space with a safe distance away from the building, the ground started to shake continuously. I saw the structures of the building began to fall to the left direction like domino. To my horror, quite a number of construction workers, who were still in the second and third storey, were pinned down by the fallen columns. I was shaken terribly to see the workers were released from the falling columns yet pinned down again by the columns as the building was swayed from the left to the right by the earthquake before it finally stopped.

We were brought out from the scene to a shelter by some passing cars. I was dumbfounded. When a friend phoned me asking my condition, I broke into tears while venting out my feeling. This was my first experience of being in the scene of a fatal earthquake even that it was just a dream. It was so real and too much to bear with.

In a twist of moment, I found myself again at home looking for my family members. My sister was busy cooking in the kitchen. I found mom in the guest room lying on the bed. "Isn't mom supposed to be in the market in the morning?" I thought. I was shocked to see mom's leg were gone; amputated to the knee. "What happen!"

What a nightmare...

Anime Festival Asia 2011 - AFA11 (Preview IV)

Anime Festival Asia 2011 is bringing back a huge human traffic at Suntec City Convention Level 4 on day two. As a banquet is being held at the atrium on the same level, cosplayers choose to hang out at the corridor along the AFA halls, thus worsening the traffic flow as compared to last year event. I managed to get "I LOVE ANISONG" concert+Festival+Stage Sunday ticket for tomorrow session with Kalafina (カラフィナ), May'n, Milky Holmes, angela & Itou Kanako. Looking forward to my first Japanese anime song concert!

Super Solar Storm 2012 Onset

This morning, apparently a solar storm had been hitting over Singapore sky with continuous flashes of lightning or aurora. Could this be the onset of super solar storm as forewarned by NASA earlier in 2006? The biggest recorded super solar storm was in 1859 which caused the telegraph system worldwide went haywire; spark discharge shocked telegraph operators and caused telegraph paper caught fire. Rare aurora were even observed in tropical latitude area.

The recent solar storm in 1989 induced power surges which melted power transformers in New Jersey and blacking out 6 million populated area in Canada for 9 hours. The impact of next solar storm to the world today which is heavily dependent on electronic devices could be more catastrophic than one can imagine 10 years ago. Check out what you can basically do to survive this solar storm here.

Work Blues Part 1

For the past two weeks, I was sent to a site office to help expedite the ongoing project of a client. Due to long travel distance and carpooling with colleague, I had to wake up at 530am, left my place at 6.15am and came back from work around 9pm. It was tiring. I don't like the feeling of which my colleague have been enduring through the similar cycle of work for more than a month without any rest day.

The recent two rest days were supposed to be a good outing and relaxing moment. Yet I felt so sleepy throughout the days although I tried to sleep more. I thought I could have some rest when I return to office under normal working hour. In the afternoon, the manager sent a sms to me informing me to prepare for a discussion tomorrow with someone on something I don't know what the heck is. I didn't bother to reply for clarity on the subject of discussion. Whatever come, let it be.

At night, both bosses sent three similar sms to me requesting me to review a training map and provide feedback by tomorrow morning. I didn't bother to reply. I won't work during my rest day. Special exception never be reserved for my current employer. I can't wait to tender my resignation next year.

The two weeks period of being put into a working environment and nature which are totally new to me, I was enlightened of the negative perspectives on my company. I have never been more rebellious to an employer of mine. Being part of the employer's management team is like being given the wheel to drive the modern slavery machine. I have been a slave myself and now how I am supposed to be helping slaving others and being slave at the same time. Holy crap.
